| On a water to water geothermal heat pump system how do you size the buffer tank?? |

A buffering tank is used to provide a quantity of water that your system will pull from. If pulling directly from the geothermal heat pump there is a posibility of short cycling the system because of pressure drops due to piping issues. The buffering tank provides a quanity of heating medium (water) that is not subject to pressure drops on pump start ups. The buffering tank should be sized ideally at 15 gallons per ton and should not be any less than 10 gallons per ton.
We recommend for a low cost tank that an electric water heater be considered. If the water heater has screwed in elements they may be taken out and those points of entry be used.
