On June 28, 2007 the new Standard for UL-142 labeled tanks takes affect. The UL Standard allows for construction tolerances for tank capacity. In an effort to reduce the risk of overfilling a tank, the new label will list the minimum total capacity.
Granby Steel Tanks has decided to apply the same rule for their UL-80 listed tanks in an effort to standardize the rated capacity markings. As a consequence, 275 gallon basement tanks will have a 266 gallon capacity label and 330 gallon tanks will have a 319 gallon capacity label. It would seem like a good suggestion to advise your customer ahead of time that the “275” gallon tank you will be installing will have a label saying 266 gallons.
