COMPLY WITH “AMANDA’S LAW” IT’S THE LAW!

David Kawauchi, Manager

New York State passed a new law effective February 23, 2010 that protects families and homes from CO (carbon monoxide) poisoning. Known as the “silent killer”, carbon monoxide is the leading cause of ACCIDENTAL poisoning deaths in the United States. It is odorless, tasteless and colorless so it cannot be detected by human senses. It is produced by common HOUSEHOLD appliances that burn fossil fuels including heating equipment, water heaters, dryers, ovens and wood/gas fireplaces. Other sources include cracked/blocked chimneys and car exhaust fumes from an attached garage.

“Amanda’s Law” states:
  • 1 - CO alarms must be installed in ALL new and existing ONE and TWO-family dwellings and MULTI-family dwellings that have a fuel-burning appliance, system or attached garage;
  • 2 - CO alarms must be listed to comply with UL 2034 or CSA 6.19 and installed within each dwelling in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Yaun Co. stocks the KIDDE brand of CO alarms that comply with this law. We have a combination CO/smoke 120 volt (hardwire) with battery backup model (#21006377) and the Nighthawk straight CO plug-in model with battery backup (#21007329).
