HFH Update – Fall 2007

by Peggy Richardson
The Liberty Habitat for Humanity House sponsored by Yaun Company Inc. on the corner of Kelly & Dwyer Avenues is enclosed with windows and doors, insulation tacked in, water and electric are on! Our hopes to have the family moved in by the holidays look promising. The vinyl siding installation is the next big step for the exterior. Volunteers will do spackle, taping and painting. The HFH family, Zaida Chasi and her 3 children put in their “sweat equity” cleaning up wood shavings and stuffing window frames with insulation. Zaida has a full time job with Social Services plus volunteers with the Prasad Children’s Dental Health Program. She is taking 2 night courses at S.C.C.C., Sociology of Family and Sociology Research. The Monticello Police Dept. coordinated an information program for Latino youths. Zaida does the presentations on how to access assistance for college, where to find job opportunities and the risks of drug and alcohol abuse. She has come a long way being able to rise above hardships with a strong determination to keep her family together.
